'Minimalism in Gallery Kama - Definition to need but not what you want'
What do you think when we talk about “minimalism”? I know most of the people doesn’t know what is minimalism or if someone know they get confused between need and want. Interesting! Don’t’ you think so? What I know about minimalism is “it defines satisfactory feeling where you values yourself instead of giving value to materialistic things. It is all about what you need instead of what everything you want. I still remember during my literature studies – my professor gave very simple example to minimalism –“watch” why you need watch? To know time right? 200 rupees watch will tell you same time which you can get in 20000 rupees watch. What is the difference? Is any special time comes on it? No. it is called minimalism 200 rupees watch is equally values to person as of 20000 rupees. Which one you choose and most of student said of course 200 rupees. Because we understood what is need not thinking what we want.
Same concept or subject is in this time by Artist Miwon ‘s paintings – “Cloud in perpetual Times” and “Mirror cloud”. It is open up room for imagination through abstraction and minimalism. During my interaction with artist – she mentioned about what she was thinking when she was making this painting. When we are in school and learning something, it is our first interaction to realistic world. We always heard so many stories, histories and philosophies but there is no space for imagination. In her previous painting she always tried to tell some stories, but this time she wanted to make space for visitor to see painting and create their own view, make their own stories this is there another concept of minimalism. In painting she used symbols and in both painting she used cloud which tells each story so lets find out.

In her first painting “ Cloud in perpetual times” – is about time keeps changing so is cloud is keep changing it’s shape. When we were in school we study about how cloud form. And in nice sunny with Brocken cloud we are trying to make shapes – faces, cups, arrows and so many things. And when we make it inner happiness and satisfaction comes in our heart. It is another definition of minimalism, where you feel satisfied because what you needed in came out in shape. Painting has moon and mountain and dim sunlight. When we can see altogether? It is twilight or dawn time. It symobilses perpetual times means time keeps changing and all your need comes as accordingly.

In her second painting “mirror cloud”- it reflects human life. Form of cloud again shows the changes in human life, emotions, thinking. Parachute or Air balloon symbolizes the flying life of human or simply I can say human. And it’s all reflection comes on surface or water/ice or symbolically in it’s own life. When people see this painting kind of feeling comes out- when first time I saw, I thought is “mirage” because reflection on surface is blur as like it happens in mirage. Every person can think something new in this painting – peace, calmness, abyss and new story with feelings. This is what this painting want you to do.
I always mention that Gallery Kama gives me something new all the time when I visit and this time new concept of realism and minimalism. let you make imaginations.
